How can artificial intelligence applications drive global sustainable development?

How can AI foster innovation and address global sustainability challenges?

If you are a researcher at any career stage interested in AI’s impact on sustainability, then this workshop is for you!

Hosted at Cranfield University on 18 November 2024, this one-day, in-person workshop will enable you to:

  • Explore, through an interactive game, how AI can foster innovation and address the challenges we face;
  • Collaborate in thematic groups focusing on a diverse range of AI applications, considering a variety of stakeholder perspectives;
  • Interact with other stakeholders to develop strategies, make decisions and plan actions linked to a range of sustainability challenges;
  • Hear from a range of expert researchers working at the cutting edge of AI for sustainability.

This workshop will provide researchers with the knowledge, insights and practical skills to utilise AI across various sectors, addressing real-world challenges.  The workshop will also provide the perfect opportunity to network and share ideas with peers and experts in AI for a sustainable future.

This workshop is part of the postdoctoral researcher-led training for the C-DICE programme, designed and delivered by Dr. Yirui Jiang, Cranfield University.

Biography:

Dr. Yirui Jiang is a researcher focused on leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies across diverse sectors to drive sustainable development. Through collaborative industrial projects, Dr Jiang guides companies through digital transformation, enabling them to meet sustainability goals. Beyond academia, Yirui actively promotes digital literacy and environmental awareness through public outreach, bridging technological advancements and societal needs.

Funding:

The cost of this course will be fully subsidised by C-DICE.  Please be advised that in booking a place you are committing to attend the training and that your University could be charged if you do not attend without cancelling by the closing date.

This workshop is eligible for the C-DICE travel and caring support funds.

Travel Fund:

C-DICE has established a fund to help postdoctoral researchers attend face-to-face C-DICE events where they may otherwise not have the funds to do so. C-DICE will contribute up to £150 towards the cost of travel and/or an overnight stay. Attendance at this training is eligible for a C-DICE travel grant. More details can be found here.

Caring Support Fund:

The C-DICE caring support fund can be used for childcare, extra home help, nursing care, travel for caring support, for example.  If you wish to join the training but your caring responsibilities could present a barrier to participation, you can apply for the Caring Support Fund to meet additional costs. The purpose of the C-DICE Caring Support Fund is to help postdoctoral researchers with caring responsibilities to offset the additional costs of caring incurred by taking part in a C-DICE activity.
