Life Cycle Assessment Webinar 23 June 2023
Our Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Webinar will enable researchers to develop an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to assess the life cycle environmental impacts of buildings and their materials, contributing to the global goal of achieving net zero emissions.
Policymakers and industry increasingly emphasise achieving net zero emissions as the world moves towards a more sustainable future. LCA is a powerful tool that can play a crucial role in achieving net zero emissions and transitioning toward a sustainable planet. By understanding the comprehensive scope of LCA, you can make links to your research field, helping to inform your research direction.
Outcomes
- Identify key components of the LCA methodology and its framework, following international ISO standards. Learn how LCA techniques can help you assess the energy and environmental impacts of manufactured products, using the context of building-related impacts.
- Consider the pivotal role LCA plays in achieving global climate goals. With building operations responsible for 27% of annual emissions and building materials and construction accounting for an additional 13%, understanding and reducing the environmental impacts of the built environment is of utmost importance.
- Evaluate how LCA influences decision-making processes by providing insights into the scale of environmental impacts associated with buildings and relevant policies or actions. Consider decision-making priorities as part of these processes.
- Explore real-life LCA case studies to illustrate how LCA calculations are performed and practical applications of LCA in assessing and mitigating environmental impacts, gaining valuable insights for your research and projects.
Biography
Dr. Fatma Seyma Keskin holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Birmingham and has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher on the C-DICE project at Cranfield University. She has valuable practical experience in designing and analysing new and existing buildings for urban transformation projects following disasters. Fatma has focused on improving the sustainable performance of buildings by considering their life cycle perspective and addressing embodied environmental impacts and has ongoing research on achieving net-zero targets in cities, infrastructure, and energy to progress postdoctoral researchers’ expertise.
